I Think in Four Languages, Therefore I Write.

Humans have a need to be understood and to communicate. It helps us make sense of our world. I still remember when someone I cared about told me for the first time that I was “annoying”. I only felt the hurt hours later when I went to look up in the English dictionary what it meant. Language learning is a process, I am committed to improving my skills in all of them when possible.

I have been interested in how we interact with the world through the lens of the two defining pillars of my journey on this planet: Art and Language. Disclaimer, English isn’t my first language, it’s actually the fourth one I learned.

Interestingly Art and Language seem to be separated worlds yet they connect. I actually see them as one. I explored some of these themes in past works I have yet to publish on my website.

Some people are gifted in communicating in their own language, their mother tongue. Others are great at navigating different ones and can’t stop learning new languages, aren’t we fascinated by polyglots? I know I am. Those I met left me inspired.

Another category or humans we tend to admire is the artist. Since I have been an art student I tried to make sense of my connection to these two worlds: communicating with words and communicating with actions.

I have a deep appreciation for performing arts, music, “especially orchestral”, my father was actually a played violin in Russia since he was 5 years old and it was his dream to play in an orchestra.

Visual arts (sculpture, painting) is more my forté. What I find incredibly beautiful is how a group of artists can come together and achieve something as one body.
